چکیده

A stochastic element-free Galerkin method was developed for reliability analysis of linear-elastic structures with spatially varying random material properties. A random ®eld representing material properties was discretized into a set of random variables with statistical properties obtained from the statistical properties of random ®eld. In conjunction with meshless formulations, the ®rst-order reliability method was employed to predict the full probabilistic characteristics of a structural response. Unlike the stochastic ®nite element method, the stochastic mesh-free method does not require a structured mesh, instead only a scattered set of nodal points is required in the domain of interest. As well, there is no need for ®xed connectivities between nodes. Numerical examples show good agreement between the results of the developed method and Monte Carlo simulation. Furthermore, the stochastic meshless method provides con-vergent solutions of the probability of failure. Since mesh generation of complex structures can be far more time-consuming and costly e€ort than solution of a discrete set of equations, the developed meshless method provides an attractive alternative to ®nite element method for solving stochastic-mechanics problems.

Probabilistic fracture mechanics by Galerkin meshless methods – part II: reliability analysis

This is the second in a series of two papers generated from a study on probabilistic meshless analysis of cracks. In this paper, a stochastic meshless method is presented for probabilistic fracture-mechanics analysis of linear-elastic cracked structures. The method involves an element-free Galerkin method for calculating fracture response characteristics; statistical models of uncertainties in ...

استفاده از روش غنی شده بدون شبکه گلرکین در تعیین پارامتر های شکست صفحات FGM

Stress-intensity factors (SIFs) are the most important parameters in fracture mechanics analysis of structures. These parameters are evaluated for a stationary crack in functionally graded plates of arbitrary geometry using a novel Galerkin based mesh-free method. The method involves an element-free Galerkin method (EFGM), where the material properties are smooth functions of spatial coordinate...

Coupling Nonlinear Element Free Galerkin and Linear Galerkin Finite Volume Solver for 2D Modeling of Local Plasticity in Structural Material

This paper introduces a computational strategy to collaboratively develop the Galerkin Finite Volume Method (GFVM) as one of the most straightforward and efficient explicit numerical methods to solve structural problems encountering material nonlinearity in a small limited area, while the remainder of the domain represents a linear elastic behavior. In this regard, the Element Free Galerkin met...

Element free Galerkin method for crack analysis of orthotropic plates

A new approach for analyzing cracked problems in 2D orthotropic materials using the well-known element free Galerkin method and orthotropic enrichment functions is proposed. The element free Galerkin method is a meshfree method which enables discontinuous problems to be modeled efficiently. In this study, element free Galerkin is extrinsically enriched by the recently developed crack-tip orthot...

Element Free Galerkin Method for Static Analysis of Thin Micro/Nanoscale Plates Based on the Nonlocal Plate Theory

In this article, element free Galerkin method is used for static analysis of thin micro/nanoscale plates based on the nonlocal plate theory. The problem is solved for the plates with arbitrary boundary conditions. Since shape functions of the element free Galerkin method do not satisfy the Kronecker’s delta property, the penalty method is used to impose the essential boundary conditions. Discre...
